SI therapy for children - Warsaw

What is sensory integration (SI) therapy?

Sensory integration therapy (SI) is a form of support for children who have difficulty processing stimuli from the body and environment (e.g. touch, movement, sounds).

In some children, the nervous system responds to stimuli too intensely, too weakly or in a disordered manner. This can affect daily functioning - playing, concentrating, eating, dressing or responding to change.

During the classes, the child receives appropriately selected stimuli in a safe and controlled manner - mainly through movement and play.

Who is SI therapy for?

Sensory integration (SI) therapy is especially helpful for children and adolescents who:

hypersensitivity to sound or touch

are looking for strong sensations (movement, pressure)

show difficulty in concentrating

have trouble quieting down

manifest difficulties with balance and coordination

show reluctance to dress or eat

During the consultation, we will check your child's motor development and suggest specific exercises and next steps.

How does SI therapy work with children?

What does SI therapy look like?

Sensory integration therapy takes place in a safe, child-appropriate environment, using equipment to work with movement, balance and deep sensation.

The activities take the form of active play - the child uses swings, balance boards, mattresses or pressure work elements, among others. All activities are selected individually, depending on how the child reacts to different stimuli.

In practice, we work on skills that are needed in everyday life:

  • Tolerating various stimuli (touch, sounds, movement)
  • balance and coordination
  • traffic planning and operation organization
  • stimulation level regulation

We place great emphasis on making the child feel safe and having the opportunity to gradually become accustomed to new experiences.

What do we develop during sensory integration classes?

  • better processing of sensory stimuli
  • regulation of arousal levels
  • coordination and balance
  • traffic planning
  • postural reactions
  • feeling your own body

Why choose SI therapy with us?

  • we connect different areas (movement, sensing, regulation) rather than working point by point
  • we adjust the level of stimuli to the child's response during the class
  • we explain to parents what exactly is going on in the classes
  • we have experience working with children with different developmental profiles

SI therapy in English

We also provide sensory integration (SI) therapy in English - we work with children from international and bilingual families.

This allows the child to participate in therapy in a language that is more natural to him or her, making it easier to understand instructions and feel safe during activities.

This is especially important for children who are just adapting to a new environment or who function in more than one language on a daily basis.

We also support parents in English - explaining the course of therapy and providing tips for work at home.

How to start sensory integration therapy?

Write to us or call us - briefly describe the child's situation and difficulties.
We will suggest whether SI therapy would be a good step and suggest the first possible appointments.

SI therapy or physiotherapy?

The two forms of support often complement each other, but address different needs of the child.

SI therapy focuses on how a child receives and processes stimuli and responds to the environment. It is worth considering if your child:

  • is hypersensitive or insensitive to sounds, touch or movement
  • avoids or seeks intense sensory experiences
  • Has difficulty regulating arousal and responses to stimuli
  • Has problems with movement planning despite normal muscle strength

Physiotherapy mainly focuses on motor development and body function. It will be a good choice if difficulties such as:

  • delays in motor development (e.g., sitting, walking)
  • abnormal muscle tone
  • balance and coordination problems
  • difficulties in maintaining a correct posture

If you are not sure where to start - we can help you choose the right form of support or offer a combination of both approaches.
