Toilet training for children - help with pampers weaning
What does toilet training consist of?
Toilet training helps children gradually learn to use the toilet without undue stress and tension. We support children who have difficulty weaning from their pampers, avoid pooping in the toilet, or react with anxiety when trying to toilet train.
Our work focuses on, among other things:
- Reduce tension and resistance associated with toileting
- gradual weaning of the pampers
- Work on holding stools and avoiding bowel movements
- Supporting the child in recognizing body signals
- building a calm and predictable routine
We tailor each plan to the child's age, experience and any additional difficulties (such as ASD, ADHD or sensory difficulties).

Who is the training for?
Toilet training is for children who have difficulty using the toilet despite their attempts to wean themselves from their pampers.
We support children both at the beginning of cleanliness training and in situations where previous attempts were very stressful or failed. In particular, we help when:
Baby only poops in the pampers
Anxiety or strong tension related to toileting appears
cleanliness training stopped despite many attempts
Child withholds poop or avoids the toilet
linen stains appear
Weaning from pampers is very difficult or causes a lot of stress

How does the process work?
What do the meetings look like?
The meetings focus primarily on understanding why it is difficult for a child to use the toilet and what makes it difficult to wean the child from the pampers.
We talk to parents about everyday situations related to cleanliness training - including toilet avoidance, tension when trying to defecate, or the need to poop only into a diaper.
Together, we identify practical strategies that can be implemented at home. Depending on your needs, we work on building a routine, reducing anxiety, gradually taming the toilet, or learning to recognize body signals.
Meetings can take the form of a one-time consultation or a shorter process to support the next steps in toilet training.

Do you have doubts whether it's time to get help?
If the child withholds bowel movements, avoids the toilet, or the situation becomes stressful - it is worth reacting early, before the problem becomes entrenched.
Write or call us. We'll briefly discuss the situation and suggest the best next step.
What to do when a child refuses to use the toilet?
In some children, the problem is not due to "naughtyness" or lack of motivation, but to high tension over defecation and toilet use. One of the more common mechanisms is the so-called Toilet Refusal Syndrome (TRS) - a situation in which the child avoids pooping in the toilet, withholds bowel movements or accepts only a pampers.
TRS can occur after painful bowel movements, stressful attempts to wean the pampers, or with greater sensory and emotional sensitivity. The more pressure around the toilet, the more the difficulty often becomes more entrenched.
The following can be helpful:
- a calm and predictable approach
- reducing pressure around defecation
- gradually taming the toilet
- building a routine instead of fighting for "success"
- adjusting strategies to fit the child's profile
If the problem persists longer or begins to affect the daily functioning of the child and the family, it is worth consulting the situation earlier - appropriate support often avoids perpetuating the difficulties.
