Diagnosis of intellectual disabilities in children in Warsaw
What is the diagnosis of intellectual disability?
Diagnosis of intellectual disability is a process that assesses a child's functioning in the areas of cognitive development and daily independence. It is not based on a single outcome - it is important to take a holistic view of how the child copes with different situations.
At Pineapple Therapy, we conduct diagnosis in a manner tailored to the child. We make sure to create a calm atmosphere, gradually build contact and observe in as natural an environment as possible.
The process includes consultation with parents, observation of the child and, as appropriate, the use of relevant diagnostic tools, such as Stanford-Binet 5, CFT 1 and 10-R or Toni-4.
On this basis, we prepare an opinion with recommendations for further support - both in therapy and education.

When is a diagnosis of intellectual disability worth considering?
The child develops more slowly than peers (e.g., speech, thinking, independence)
Has learning difficulties despite support
needs more time and repetition to master new skills
Has difficulty understanding instructions or rules
requires support in daily functioning (dressing, eating, organizing the day)
difficulties persist despite the passage of time

What are the diagnostic meetings like?
Meetings are held in a calm atmosphere and are tailored to the child's abilities. We are keen that the child should be able to show his real skills, without undue stress.
During the meetings, we combine observation with diagnostic tasks. We also spend part of our time talking with the parent to better understand the child's functioning in daily life.
The entire process is spread over several meetings - so that the assessment is reliable and not based on a single survey.

What about after the diagnosis?
Diagnosis is the first step - it helps to sort out the situation and plan further support.
Based on the results, we can suggest specific actions tailored to the child's needs - such as working on communication, independence, functioning in everyday situations, or educational support.
If necessary, we also assist in the preparation of documentation for the psychological-educational counseling center (PPP) and further formalities.
If you are not sure what will work best, during the consultation we will determine together the further direction of work.
